SIGHT-SEEING IN THE WEST END

DIVING OFF WEST END, ROATAN

Peter & I took a refresher course from Roatan Divers & have been enjoying several dives off the spectacular reefs along the west side of the island where we have been on a mooring ball for the past 2 weeks. (No anchoring, as it is all Marine Park). This one was called "Hole-in-the-Wall" which was a chute going down 115 ft. - pretty exciting!

Peaceful resort area with miles of beaches & many restaurants & bars. Peter chatting with Capt Brooks about fishing.Posted by Picasa

The West End, Roatan

T
The West End is on Isla Roatan, Honduras & is another Caribbean diving mecca. The West End is what we picture Key West would've been like 50 years ago - dirt roads, funky bars & restaurants - just love it! We took a refresher course in scuba diving through Roatan Divers & have enjoyed the coral, numerous large fish, turtles, etc in this pristine marine park.

GARIFUNA CELEBRATION

We were fortunate to be able to help celebrate the 214th anniversary of the Garifunas, descendents of the slaves from Africa shipwrecked off the Caribbean Islands. A good majority of the slaves ended up on Roatan Island. We enjoyed much drum beating & provacative dancing!
