HACIENDA TIJAX
On the day before Matt had to leave, we went for a beautiful horseback ride through a rubber & teak plantation. Our guides Raoul & Victor along with horses, Zorro, Aguila & Guapo made for a great day despite the intense heat. Peter however suffered from painful saddle sores the next day!!

CASTIILO SAN FELIPE, LAGO IZABEL
The fort was built in 1652, to defend against pirates seeking gold carried by Spanish ships. The ships would come into the river & anchor in Lake Izabel where they would be protected by the fort. Today, it is a national landmark & museum.

AGUA CALIENTE
Agua Caliente is a 25 ft. waterfall of hot springs water that falls into pools formed by cooler mountain streams. The fall itself is so hot, you can't even put your head under it. The pools are refreshing though, & the whole area is very lush & beautiful - a perfect way to spend the day!
ADVENTURAS TO "AGUA CALIENTE"
We organized a road trip with a number of cruisers to go to the waterfalls near Lago Izabel. Fellow cruisers on "Lunasea" have a pick-up truck which they were generous enough to take 11 off on our little adventure. We packed a lunch & went for a ride.
TORTUGAL MARINA
There are a couple of dozen places to choose from when staying in the Rio, but Tortugal (Little Turtle) appealed to Peter & I. It's a beautiful setting with a great restaurant & the "piece de resistance" - the swim grid. We plan on being here for about 10 days before pulling the boat out of the water.

STREET SCENES FROM FRONTERAS, GUATEMALA
Fronteras is a major truck route featuring the largest bridge in Central America. Trucks jammed with cattle going east to west and trucks jammed with cattle going west to east...you would think they could figure out another way.
This is a real "Cowboy" town as Peter is happy to display!

Going Up the Rio Dulce (The Sweet River)
After an overnight passage, enhanced by an intense electrical storm, we finally made it from Utila, Honduras to Livingston, Guatemala. The pyrotechniques were like nothing we've seen before - made for an interesting crossing! But we did catch a tasty mahi mahi. Crossed the "bar" which is a 6ft. mud bar clearance to check into Guatemala (a whopping $400/U.S.) & then proceeded to go up the Rio Dulce which was a spectacular trip. Beautiful bird life & very tranquil settings. Found out that they filmed Tarzan here!!
